Passersby Series, 2022 - 2023

Passersby Series focuses on the impact of anti-Asian hate crimes on our daily lives. This print animation project is based on video surveillance clips capturing such crimes in New York City during the pandemic. Passersby 1 features 46 individual drypoint prints, each inspired by footage showing an elderly Asian woman being violently pushed to the ground by a stranger in NYC. She required 10 stitches on her head after the attack. Passersby 2 comprises 100 monotype prints, reflecting surveillance footage of hotel lobby workers passively standing by as an Asian woman was being assaulted by a stranger.
